Inaugural Issue
Greetings.
I was doing some research on the history of cleaning in general for this first article. My line of thinking was to start out with a historical perspective on our multi faceted industry and I found plenty. Going back to the early 1700’s in the US, then finding information on chimney sweeps in England, then going back even further, there were the folks who worked in the homes and castles in medieval times and then further back to the Roman god, Janus, the original custodian. But was he really? Before him someone was sweeping up those pyramids, right? I am positive Noah didn’t clean up that ark by himself either.
I am willing to bet that somewhere back in the distant past a couple of cave dwellers were busy making their cave torches by binding a bunch of straw to the end of a stick and leaning them against the cave wall. One day, Mr. or Mrs. Cave dweller moved those torches and noticed that the brush end happened to clear away some of the debris and Terradactyl bones off the old cave floor. Being a couple of hygienic minded cave people they then proceeded to sweep out their cave. Now, imagine that the neighbors stop by and notice that this cave does not smell as bad as theirs nor are the flies so thick! Our hygienic couple thought for a moment and then said “ Today, why don’t you go hunt down the mammoth or saber tooth tiger and while your gone, we will make your cave look like this.” The first cleaning service was born, followed shortly by the first manufacturer and distributor company, of brooms.
Now that is a fictional account but does it sound unreasonable? We work in an very diversified field, there are janitorial service firms, residential service firms, carpet cleaners, floor care professionals, crime scene clean up specialists, restoration companies, mold remediation firms, window washers, and the list goes on. Every time mankind has raised itself up another level on the evolutionary ladder someone was there to clean up behind them. We are members of a proud, much needed service-based community and we all came from the same humble beginnings. So in this our first publication I would like to salute all you who have chosen to work in this field and related support fields. I would ask you to reflect for a moment on all of our ancestors who toiled and labored to clean the palaces, castles, mansions, factories, huts and yes, probably the caves so that our fellow mankind can grow and prosper in a cleaner, healthier environment.
CleanPeers.com is for you, it costs nothing to come here and read the features and articles contributed by your cleaning comrades.
