Pre-Screening Potential Employees

     What key questions do you ask when interviewing to help thin down the number of applicants and narrow your focus?

 

Debra: 

·        When I call your previous employers, what should I expect to hear from them?

·        Do you currently or have you previously cleaned as an independent or subcontractor in your own business?

 

Sara:

·        Do you enjoy cleaning and do you feel you have an eye for detail?

·        Do you feel that you can work independently without a lot of supervision?

 

Alicia:

• Do you have reliable transportation?
• Are there days you can not work or days where schedules would conflict?

 

Dustin:

• What do you expect of me as your employer?
• What do you expect to gain from your job with me?

          

 

Do you prefer to hire people with cleaning experience?

 

Debra:

• I don’t really have a preference when hiring general cleaners, but floor technicians and carpet cleaners must have some experience.

Sara:

• I prefer to hire people with very little or no experience.  We have a 2 week on-the-job training program to teach them our style and methods.  We find it easier to teach someone our methods as opposed to attempting to “re-teach” someone with previous (maybe bad) experience.

Alicia:

• This depends on how well they interview and their background in cleaning.

Dustin:

• No preference at this time.  If the person seems eager to learn or has something to share from previous experience then they may benefit us.
