Window Cleaning Solutions?
Over the
course of this past spring and early summer the discussions on many of the
boards turned to Window Cleaning and the different solutions of cleaner used.
The following is some of the suggested glass and window cleaning
solutions. CleanPeers does not
recommend these mixtures as the proper method of window cleaning but rather
lists them as alternatives to general glass cleaner and to demonstrate the
diversity that exists in this particular part of our field.
In the winter everyone seemed to agree
that windshield washer fluid worked the best on exterior glass in the northern
climates or adding windshield washer fluid to any of the mixtures listed below.
Spring / Summer alternatives were:
2 gallons water
˝ cup ammonia
2 drops of dawn or joy dishwashing
detergent
A pinch of TSP (trisodiamphosphate) in
a gallon of water works good and you can use CLR to remove mineral and hard
water marks.
2 teaspoons of white vinegar to a 32 oz spray bottle
2 gallons of warm/hot water
1 tablespoon of dawn
1 quart of clear ammonia
1 pint of rubbing alcohol
There were also plenty of advocates for the window
cleaner sold in Home Depot, Lowe’s and the numerous janitorial supply
distributors. There were also a large
number of residential cleaners who stuck up for their products of Windex and
Glass Plus too.
