How To Make The Switch To Natural Products

You have to start at home.

If you are not using all natural in your own home, how can you convince others of the benefits of going chemical free?

Don't be squeamish, get rid of it all. Here's a sample list of what needs to disappear from your home.

1. Bleach
2. Ammonia
3. Ajax, Comet, any kind of abrasive
4. Spray furniture polish
5. Synthetic lemon oil
6. Toilet Bowl Cleaner (and that disgusting toilet brush)
7. Tub and Tile Cleaner
8. Windex, glass cleaner w. ammonia
9. All-purpose Cleaners
10. Kitchen degreasers
11. Oven Cleaner
12. Stainless Cleaner spray
13. Air Fresheners
14. Floor Cleaners
15. Antibacterial Dish soap, Dish soap with bleach
16. Laundry soap with phosphates
17. Dishwasher soap with bleach
18. Papertowels
19. Throw away cloths
20. Anything swiffer

and please, the PineSol. Wonder where your headaches come from. It's this product.


I'm not too sure if I left anything out but it has been a while since there has been chemical in this house

21. Fabric softener sheets – if you dry like material together you won’t get static (keep rayon away from cotton, and keep polyester from rayon, etc etc

23. Chemical laundry soap – mix equal parts of borax and washing soda, add pure soap flakes
24. Dishwasher Detergent – find an eco friendly product or better yet do them by hand
25. Dish soap – find eco –friendly product
25. Anti-bacterial hand soap –lots of great natural products around
26. Chemical based shampoos, soaps, bath bubbles and so on. – same goes for these



Replace with....


Under your bathroom sink

A small bucket with

2 toothbrushes - one for toilet - one for intricate scrubbing

soft white scrubby - red scrubby(or green) for toilet only

grout scrubber tool

plastic knife

small stack of cotton cloths

rubber gloves

small 4 oz spray bottle to hold hot water for polishing mirror and glass

spice shaker with equal parts borax, washing soda, and salt for toilet


All Purpose Cleaner-spray bottle with water (preferably distilled), 2 Tbsp. of natural liquid detergent (1 Tbsp if regular detergent) 3 drops of tea tree essential oil for disinfectant (2 Tbsp of vinegar will also do the trick but not recommended for marble or gold plated/pewter taps) 4 drops of Lavender essential oil for scent and added disinfectant. This will cover everything from cleaning counter tops to polishing tubs, sinks, toilets, shower doors, cleaning doors cupboards and so on

spray bottle of straight vinegar for daily shower spray to stop mold and mildew and to use on the inside of toilet when done cleaning with borax mixture

small pump bottle of liquid soap for cleaning sink and bathtub/ shower stall and washing floor. 10 pumps to ½ a small bucket of hot water

small 4 oz bottle with 1 part fabric softener (preferable natural) to 3 parts water. This easily removes the film left by hairsprays and can also be used on TV screens and as a polisher to deflect dust on ceiling fans, light bulbs, (make sure lights are off when you apply anything damp to them)


Under your kitchen sink

A small bucket with

Toothbrush

Hand held scrub brush

Scrubby

Plastic knife

Pot Scrubber

Small stack of cotton cloths

Microfibre cloths – 2….one for dusting one for brushed stainless appliances

Rubber gloves

small 4 oz spray bottle to hold hot water for polishing mirror and glass

All Purpose Cleaner – ingredients listed above ….. for stove top, ventilation fan, counter tops, cupboards, backsplash, appliances small and large. Polishing of taps and more

Spray bottle of vinegar for spraying an wiping inside of oven on a regular basis and spraying cutting boards

Spice shaker of baking soda with whole cloves (just smells great) for cleaning messes inside of oven, scrubbing stainless sink, removing stains from counter tops and cleaning stove inserts, and more

4 oz. spray bottle of 1 part olive oil and 2 parts vinegar for furniture polish

Natural lemon oil to protect wood

As a last resort but should always have on hand is S.O.S. pads. Everything is environmentally friendly except the pad which is metal fibres but when all else fails this cleans.
